Master of Fire and Emergency Sciences

The graduate program in Fire and Emergency Sciences and Emergency Services/Disaster Management is designed for individuals who are seeking knowledge in emergency planning, hazard mitigation and preparedness, disaster response and recovery, and homeland security. The goal is to create broad experience that includes the many elements of current cases in FES and ES/DM and emphasizes both the critical thinking and leadership skills necessary to advance in the field. Applicants must have already attained at least a bachelor’s degree prior to being admitted to both the degree and certificate programs.

Admission Requirements

Application Instructions

  • Applicants must apply online. The online application is available on the UF Office of Admissions’ website.
  • A statement of purpose, resume, and unofficial transcripts are to be uploaded to the online application.
  • The online application is also where applicants list the email addresses of their references. The references will upload their letters of recommendation directly to the online application.
  • Applicants must also mail official copies of their transcripts and bachelor’s degree certificates to the the UF Office of Admissions. Their mailing address is:

  • Official transcripts can also be sent electronically to UF school code 001535.
  • Test scores should be sent directly to Admissions from the agencies who administer the exams. The UF test score code is 5812.

Application Deadlines

Spring admission – September 15 of the previous year
Summer admission – March 1 of the same year
Fall admission – June 1 of the same year

Applicants will need to pay the application fee and have official transcript(s) sent to the UF Office of Admissions

In addition to submitting an application, all applicants must qualify by providing:

Degree Seekers

  • an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university
  • a cumulative verbal and quantitative GRE score of at least 300
  • a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • For international applicants a TOEFL score of 84 or higher on the Internet-Based exam (550 on the Paper-Based) or a 6.5 or higher on the IELTS.
  • three letters of recommendation
  • a statement of purpose
  • a current resume

Certificate Seekers

  • an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university
  • a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • one letter or recommendation
  • a statement of purpose
  • a current resume
