Undergraduate FES Certificates

The undergraduate certificate program in Fire & Emergency Services is designed for the working professional or student with short term or career advancement goals, or a need for quickly attainable specialty education in emergency services. Requires an associate’s degree in a related field. Later, should you decide to apply for admission to the bachelor’s degree program and are accepted, credits earned for the certificate will count toward the degree program. You may apply for admission to a certificate program by submitting a CERTIFICATE application.

Senior Fire Officer

To receive this certificate, you must successfully complete the following six courses (see course descriptions):

  • FES 3780 Analytical Approaches in Public Fire Protection
  • FES 4003 Fire and Emergency Services Administration
  • FES 4023 Leadership and Ethics Issues
  • FES 3533 Community Risk Reduction for Emergency Services
  • FES 3720 Strategic Planning for FES
  • FES 4045 Personnel Management for Emergency Services

EMS Management

To receive this certificate, you must successfully complete the following five courses (see course descriptions):

  • FES 3015 – Principles of Fire and Emergency Services Management
  • FES 3284 – Management of EMS
  • FES 3285 – Advanced Leadership Issues in EMS
  • FES 3720 – Strategic Planning for FES
  • FES 4224 – Management of Mass Casualty Incidents

To receive this certificate, you must successfully complete the following five courses (see course descriptions):

  • FES 3822 Disaster Policy in Emergency Management
  • FES 4014 Foundations of Emergency Management
  • FES 4825 Disaster Planning and Control
  • FES 4884 Introduction of Emergency Management of Terrorism
  • FES 3533 Community Risk Reduction for Emergency Services/or FES 4234 EMS Community Risk Reduction

 

If you are completing a certificate this semester, go to your Student Self Service and under My Record, click on Certificate/Degree Application and apply for it online. The Office of the University Registrar will mail your certificate to you after the semester ends and post it officially to your transcript.
