COMBINED BS/MSBC and BS/MBC DEGREE PROGRAMS IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

The combined BS/MSBC and BS/MBC degree programs would allow qualified students to earn both degrees at an accelerated pace. Qualified students would be allowed to begin the MSBC/MBC degree course work while they are 4BC and count 12 hours of graduate BCN courses for both the BSBC and MSBC/MBC degree requirements. The MSBC/MBC degree could be completed within two semesters after completing the BSBC requirements.

Admission Requirements for the Combined BS/MSBC and BS/MBC Programs

  • Satisfy Graduate School admission requirements for an MSBC/MBC degree.
  • Upper division GPA of 3.4 or better at the end of the junior year
  • Completion of all undergraduate junior level BCN course requirements.
  • GRE (V+Q) score of 1100 or better

Combined BS/MSBC and BS/MBC Programs

  • All BSBC requirements must be satisfied except 12 hours of designated BCN graduate courses are used to satisfy 12 hours of BS courses and electives (as well as 12 hours toward the MSBC/MBC degree).
  • All BCN, MSBC/MBC requirements (thesis or non-thesis option) are satisfied.
  • A BSBC degree will be awarded as soon as all BSBC requirements are satisfied.
  • The MSBC/MBC degree will be awarded as soon as all master's requirements are satisfied (including the completion of the BS degree requirements).

Required Combined BS/MSBC and BS/MBC Courses

Each of the following courses will cover material of a replaced undergraduate or elective course as well as enhancements of that course. The four (4) required graduate courses, which replace BCN 4709, BCN 4787 and 2 BCN Senior electives respectively, for the Combined BS/MSBC and BS/MBC degree students are:

  • BCN 5705 Project Management for Construction
  • BCN 5789 Construction Project Delivery
  • BCN 5625 Cost Analysis or BCN 5715 Advanced Construction Labor Problems
  • BCN 6036 Construction Research Method

MSBC/MBC

The Rinker School offers graduate education in planning and scheduling, construction management, cost control, information technology, sustainability, and safety with specialization focused on the mission of its research centers in Sustainable Construction, Affordable Housing, Fire Science and Construction Safety and Loss Control. The Rinker School also offers an Internet-based distance education Masters' degrees in International Construction Management.

JD/MBC and JD/MSBC

The Rinker School offers a joint degree with the Levin College of Law leading to the JD/MBC or JD/MSBC degrees.

Minor in Real Estate

The Rinker School offers in conjunction with the Department of Real Estate the opportunity for BCN graduate students to earn a minor in Real Estate.
