Student Information

Dear BCN Students:

My name is Kim Stanley. I am the Job Placement Coordinator here at the Rinker School. I assist students with job placement, which includes permanent and internship opportunities. The job placement office has been created to facilitate in your job search. The office is your contact point to find out important information on career fairs, company information sessions, permanent employment and internships.

The fall and spring career fairs are the most effective way to find employment. Each semester over 100 companies attend our career fairs in order to recruit students. I encourage all BCN and pre-BCN students to attend the fair and seek employment opportunities. Within the construction industry the more experience you have the better your chance of being successful!

Aside from the career fairs, other effective methods of job placement include seminars used for recruiting purposes and on-campus interviews. Various construction companies use the seminar/ information session format to actively recruit future employees. Over the course of your BCN career, I highly recommend using these seminars to your advantage. It is a great way to learn about what companies have to offer and whether you would like to work or intern for them. An on line calendar for information sessions and interview schedules is updated each semester to let you know who will be visiting the school. Make sure to check the calendar regularly as it is updated upon company reservation. In addition to seminars, many companies hold interviews for BCN students on campus and off campus. The job placement website offers interviewing and resume writing tips as well.

The Rinker School encourages all students to seek full-time construction employment during the summer semester, and if possible an eight month internship is encouraged as well. Internship opportunities serve to enhance the student's education by familiarizing them with applied techniques in the building construction industry. As the Job Placement Coordinator I will assist you in locating challenging and rewarding positions in the construction industry. You may participate in a three month summer internship, a certified three month internship or an eight month internship. More details on these internships can be obtained through the job placement office.

The BCN JOB POSTINGS board also allows current students and BCN alumni to view opportunities locally in Gainesville and nationwide. Be sure to check out the website when searching for internships and employment, as it is updated weekly.

If you have any questions, need assistance, or have suggestions, please feel free to contact me or come by my office.

Good luck and Go Gators!
